C.W. Obel Ejendomme optimizes energy consumption through Legacy's insights.

Total Area: 314.500 m2

Number of Buildings: 40

Portfolio Value: 10B+ DKK

Lasse Smidt, Technical Director at C.W. Obel Ejendomme shares his experiences and insights on the collaboration between Legacy and C.W. Obel Ejendomme.

“Our overarching objectives include a substantial reduction in emissions from energy consumption. Legacy's data and expertise played a major part in achieving these goals, providing the necessary data for a comprehensive portfolio analysis.

Background

Since the 1990s, C.W. Obel Ejendomme has managed commercial and residential properties all over Copenhagen and Aalborg. They value location, aesthetics, and quality of their buildings and were one of the first actors within the Danish real estate industry to adopt Legacy's Carbon Accounting Software.

Identifying outliers

“Our initial encounter with Legacy highlighted significant performance variations among our buildings. By using the insights from Legacy, we identified buildings that didn’t perform quite as well compared to others. This enabled us to implement targeted improvements in energy consumption and emissions for the underperforming buildings and, thus, optimize the overall portfolio performance. In 2023, we achieved a significant milestone by benchmarking our buildings for the first time. Legacy played a pivotal role in this process, enabling us to see that we’re on the right path to reduce emissions.”

Reaching operational and strategic objectives

“Our overarching objectives include a substantial reduction in emissions from energy consumption, building renovations, and operations. Legacy's data and expertise play a major part in achieving these goals, as they provide the necessary data for a comprehensive portfolio analysis. We anticipate more milestones as we leverage their platform for our first official reporting in 2024. Legacy will also be very important in our pursuit of more DGNB certifications for select buildings in the coming years."

Advice to other real estate companies

“You better get started. At the very least, engage and do some practice before official obligations arise. We are foreseeing substantial growth in the carbon reporting industry, especially with evolving legislation. In our experience, the headstart of a few years has ensured that we are fully ready to report in 2024."
